Should celebrities speak out politically? 11 members have voted

  1. 1. Should celebrities speak out politically?

    • no. They should just do their job -- act, dance, sing, etc., and have their vote counted like everyone else.

    • yes. They have a right to air their opinions. I would just prefer they don't interject them into mediums like awards ceremonies.

    • yes. When to insert their political opinions depends on the urgency of the issues. There are times when silence in front of any microphone is complicit.
    • yes, always, considering that the media is being taken over by rich, right-wingers who have 24 hour megaphones to spread their manipulative propoganda.
    • only if they want to. We shouldn't expect them to jeapordize their fan support. Because i will boycott them if they're out there on the wrong side of an important issue.

Billie Eilish is going the other way. Telling billionaire's off to their face and donating millions.

  1. which way would you go if you were a celebrity?

  2. for example, J.K. Rowling airs anti-trans positions. Will you, should you boycott the Harry Potter universe?

  • The title was changed to POLL: Should celebs speak out?

I applaud the celebrities that speak out and donate to causes they believe in. These are not normal times. When you have billionaires buying elections, we need all the help we can get.

As for JK Rowling, I never was a Harry Potter fan but my daughter was. She was extremely disappointed in Rowling as a person but respects her writing.

I believe it's ok for celebrities to voice their opinions, just as it is ok for anyone to do so. But people must keep in mind that they are just individuals voicing an opinion.

I can only speak for myself. If I was a celebrity, I would feel obligated to speak out. It would be a gift to be able to do the moral and ethical thing in such a potentially impactful way.

I think it is especially important for comedians to speak out. They are the ones who call out nonsense, piffle, lies, hypocrisy and utter bull💩. We depend on them to remind us of reality.

Responsibility not only comes with fame, but also with wealth, or at least it used to....
